A stunning looking and sounding violin bass! The Hofner 500/1 has been an industry staple for decades used by many players in studio and session work with a woody thump that is like no other. These light weight player stand-by's that are crucial for any serious bassist looking for vintage tone - and collectors will appreciate this rare custom shop example (with #001 serial stamp!).
From 2022, this instrument is in like new condition having been used only lightly for studio use. Cosmetically it is in next to new condition with only one small finish chip present on the back of the headstock. The black finish is nicely complimented by its full white binding and pearloid pickguard and control plate.
The neck is designed with a standard shorter 30" scale length. The neck profile is thick, measuring about .9" in depth at the first position tapering up to about 1.05" at the twelfth fret. The neck is nice and straight with clean frets and fingerboard - the action is easy measuring an even 5/64" in height at the twelfth fret for each string, with room at the bridges thumb screws for any further adjustments if needed. Currently strung with flatwound strings.
