The Congress model by Hofner was designed to be a student level instrument in the late 50's. This pre-truss rod version, has a 15" lower bout, which sits nice and comfortable like that of a parlor guitar. Well maintained, the top retains a strong arch. An art deco "Compensator" tailpiece takes on the Epiphone Frequensator and works great, free of cracks and with almost no piting. Two piece rosewood bridge still has a hair of room at the thumb wheels for further adjustment. The neck does show forward relief, again with no truss rod, but it plays well with about 6/64" in height at the twelfth fret. The neck has a 1 5/8" nut width, and a 25" scale length.
Cosmetically, this antique burst finish looks great, with most of the surface wear on the back and sides, and generally mild (see photos). Structurally, it is sound, with a sealed crack at the heel which appears to be non problematic. The frets show mild wear at the open chord position, but overall this example is clean.
A nice budget vintage archtop that certainly has a "sound".
Includes chipboard case.
