The D-40, while being a guitar that had changed a few times during Guilds operations, is a very nice dreadnaught with all the standard nuts & bolts to impress discerning players. This D-40 model dates accurately to 1966, which puts it Hoboken period for the company. This example features a solid Spruce top with multi ply binding. The back and sides, are made of mahogany stained a nice deep red. Internally, it has a standard X scalloped bracing pattern with a large thin maple bridge plate. The lower bout measures 15.75" across, with a depth of 4 7/8" at the butt end and about 3 7/8" at the heel. Cosmetically, this example is in good condition, with fairly standard nicks and dings, and notable pick wear around the guard. Recent neck reset - this guitar is in great playing shape and ready for its next career. The neck is designed with a 25.5" scale length, and a 1 23/32" nut width. The neck is nice and straight, the frets clean and leveled. The string action currently measuring 6/64" in height of the sixth string at the twelfth fret, and 5/64" on the first. The saddle nice and tall about 8/64" in height over the slot. Original tuners present and functional. The profile is clean with some light nicks present. The peg head veneer has began to lift and separate near the nut. Includes original hardshell case.
