Gibson would produce the GA-20 in serveral different forms between 1950 and 1961. This example of the GA-20 comes from about the middle of its run, and ticks all of the boxes for any vintage amp collector. Dressed in a two-tone brown leatherette and buffalo grain, with a Saran grille cloth - it looks much like a piece of old luggage. This Ga-20 has an attactive maroon faceplate - which matches nicely with the faux-leather covering.

Rich, warm tones at lower volume contrast well from the familiar Fender sound, and puts these old gems in a class of their own. When cranked it delivers a meaty and twangy light overdrive, with relatively low headroom thanks to the original Jensen speaker. These small, old combos are perfect for low volume or recording situations, and have rightfully earned their place as many people's secret weapons in the studio.

Cosmetically the amp is in fine shape, with normal wear and tear on the covering but no major signs of abuse, aside from a small hole added on the back panel. The faceplace is in great condition, with just some dust and a light petina on the input jacks. It's only other demerit is a replaced handle which is attatched with zip-ties. Not pretty - but functional - we are leaving it up to the future owner to replace it with something more aesthetically pleasing.

Internally the amp has seen some routine service, including the addition of a 3-prong power cord. The long-dried out original electrolytic capacitors have been replaced with high-quality F&T caps, a welcome addition to any amp more than half a century old. Aside from a handful of resistors, the amp retains the rest of its original circuitry including the original coupling caps. The replaced parts and notes from the tech are included in the sale.

It is currently loaded with the original Jensen P12R, which is in beautiful condition, and a wonderful compliment of vintage GE & RCA tubes.
