An exceptional example...late production Gibson F-2 model boasting a high-grade bark, with complimentary warmth from low end, being the choice mandolin for playing from a discerning collector. A no frills F-5, the model features stripped down appointments, with all the power and punch of the higher grade model. The carved F style body has two points, a fully bound wide grained spruce top with good arch, well-graduated two piece flamed maple back and sides, oval sound hole with herringbone and marquetry rosette, and original patent stamped adjustable bridge; missing pickguard; binding shrinkage present, as well as surface edge wear, dings, scuffs, scrapes, and other normal play wear. The 13-7/8" scale extended ebony fingerboard was refretted at some point, and is fully bound, on a one piece maple neck, w/ three piece peghead; equipped with engraved plate tuners (bass side buttons are later), with "Gibson" in straight pearl script on peghead; great playing straight neck with adjustable truss rod. Includes later hard case.
