Maybe the quintessential jazz box... The original Gibson ES-175 single pickup has been used by only the best of the best. A nice warm tone with articulation, vocal like low-mids, and "vintage" detail is something that is best outlined in this example which retains its original wiring harness and PAF pickup. The full hollow guitar is iconic with its Florentine cutaway, seen here in the forever cool sunburst finish which is in excellent cosmetic condition. The body is built with a laminate maple construction, with multi ply binding which is in strong condition. As mentioned, the guitar retains original rosewood bridge, chrome zig zag tailpiece, electronics and plastics (including the mounting ring knobs, pickguard with mounting hardware). The original orange label stamped A25637 in very clean condition (like the rest of this wonderful instrument). The lone pickup is none other than the famed "Patent Applied For". These legendary PAF pickups need no true explanation, less the uniqueness of a first year example like this one. The pickup has no sticker, as the first years historically would not have. A strong 7.8k output yields some of the best guitar tone we've heard in the shop - both punchy and clear - with a balanced detail that otherwise is unmatched. Original M-69 mounting ring present in good condition. Original wiring harness is present and not tampered with, including the pot covers with untouched solder joints. Original Switchcraft jack present inside of its own cover. The neck is designed with Gibsons 24.75" scale length, the neck joining the body at the 14th fret. The nut has a 1 11/16" nut width, the profile (nice and clean) which measures .88" in depth at the first position tapering up to about 1.15" at the twelfth. The binding has worn through its nibs, but the frets are clean, ringing true in each position. The action is nice and low measuring 5-4/64" in high at the twelfth fret, the saddle almost bottomed out. The rosewood fingerboard is nice and clean with original split parallelogram inlay. Upon its arrival, this guitar had showed up with Grover closed gear tuners, likely swapped decades ago. For authenticity sake, we put on a very charming set of Gibson Double Line/ Double Collar Klusons. The previous Grovers had left an impression on the face of the headstock veneer, which has been touched up subtly. Included in the sale is the original brown Lifton case with pink interior.
