A fantastic offset - this 1966 Fender Jazzmaster marks an interesting transition point for the company to CBS. The full move has been regarded by most collectors as post '65, but as history would prove, the early examples post transition featured strong aspects of the build quality of pre CBS instruments. While eventually larger changes to Poly based finishes, different pickguard materials, pickup windings and the like would occur, earlier transition rare variants of some instruments were produced - and we welcome this fine Jazzmaster with open & excited hands. A top notch playing instrument, this example is completely unaltered.

The alder body features its original three tone burst finish in great condition, with only mild surface wear and small non troublesome nicks, and chip near the heel. The body appears to be two pieces of Alder, with a very nice burst. The finish appears to have light case burn primarily around its back edges from having spent decades untouched in the original case. Original 3 ply red tortoise shell guard is intact, but has shrank a bit around its original screws, all of which appear in great, rust-free shape. Original bridge, and Fender stamped tremolo and arm present. Original neck plate with F stamp and year correct serial 145446 present. Original plastics, there is mild string wear present on the pickup covers. Under the hood, the original cavity shield is present, along with correct electronics, a mix of Stackpole and CTS pots, another common thing seen on a transition model, with correct 1 Meg tone dating to early '66 (CTS 137 6612), and tone to late 1965 (Stackpole 304 6545). Orange cap present, and all wiring appears untouched. The neck on this guitar is fantastic, a rare MOP dot inlay with binding example. Fender soon began only offering these guitars bound with block inlay, making this one a cool and unique piece for any Fender collector. Easy playability and low action. The neck is stamped 13JAN66B, accurately depicting this instrument with its B sized nut width of a common 1 5/8". The neck measures .87" thick at the first position, with no real taper measuring .88" at the twelfth fret. The action measures a hair over a comfortable 4/64" in height at the twelfth fret. The frets and fingerboard are clean with only very light wear present mostly in the first position. Comes with original Fender Jazzmaster instruction manual (rare), strap, and black rectangle hard-shell case with legendary red/orange interior.
