Fender Bassman 5F6, serial #BM-00111, made in Fullerton, CA, 1957. Very good cosmetic shape and expertly re-built, player grade example.

The later revision 5F6 and 5F6-A amps are well known as the amps that Jim Marshall based his original JTM-45 circuit around. Their role in the history of shaping rock 'n' roll simply cannot be understated, and they are rightfully one of the most desireable amps Fender ever made.

Originally marketed as a bass amp, the Fender Bassman would soon be adopted by guitarists and harp players alike. The Bassman is well known for its pleasing, sonorous tone, that is ideal for blues, rock, and country. Like its sibling the 5E3 Deluxe, and the early Marshall amps it spawned, the 5F6 overdrives beautifully when the channels are jumpered.

Cosmetically this amp retains its original tweed covering and grill cloth, keeping all of its visually striking mojo intact. The faceplate has some normal wear, but is in good shape with a clean  screen print. Some rust spots, wear, and petina on the input jacks is present but there are no signs of abuse.

Electrically this amp has undergone an extensive restoration, and is proudly in the "too much to list" category. Of the original set of 3 transformers, two remain original-with the power transformer replaced with a Fender OEM unit. All of the electrolytic capacitors have been swapped out with high quality, F&T replacements. Under the doghouse, the filter caps, dropping resistor, and a new fiberboard have been installed.

Inside of the chassis, the amp retains its' original 5F6 circuit, with some minor differences from the later 5F6-A. Previously replaced coupling caps have been swapped out with more appropriate Jupiter and Mallory caps. A handful of the original carbon comp resistors have also been replaced as well, with exact replacements. The power cord has been updated to a hospital grade, 3 prong cord. One octal tube socket has also been replaced with a Belton socket.

The cabinet is currently loaded with 4 Celestion speakers, 2x 10" Alnico Gold and 2x 10" Greenback, loaded in an X-pattern offering a smart blend of mid-range punch and low end fullness. The preamp tubes are premium Gold Lion 12AX7's while the two 6L6's are JAN NOS. The original mercury vapor rectifier has been swapped for a more reliable, and safer 5AR4 rectifier.

This Bassman is among the best sounding and looking examples we have ever had in our showroom. It is bulletproof and ready for the next 70 years of rock, blues, country, or whatever you throw at it!
