A fine example of a Fairbanks by Vega Whyte Laydie No. 2 w/ favorable specifications, built in 1920, with fantastic sound. The rim assembly measures 10-3/4" in diameter, and is of lightly stained maple, with tortoise binding on the interior; correct stamps present on dowel and rim, with Ditson retail plaque partially covering maker stamp; original nickel plated hardware including bracket band, hooks/nuts; missing lower neck ferrule; some wear on back of rim exposing multi laminations. The three piece maple neck is fully bound with thin original frets (very light wear only), simple pearl fretboard makers; end of fingerboard has some chips, small replaced portion of peghead overlay beneath 2nd string, with substandard binding replacement. Equipped with recent Planetary Style tuners, newer nut, spikes on 7/9. Some light wear on the back of the neck, surface separation repair on heel crack, and finish impressions along the center lamination. The neck is in very nice shape with light forward relief, making this a fine vintage player, setup with a high quality skin head. 26" scale length, ~1-3/8" nut width. Includes original hard shell case.
