This amazing instrument is a great example of an early guitar banjo. The slotted peghead neck is something right off of a parlor guitar! The instrument was made in the 1890s, which means it is not suitable for wire strings. The nylon classical guitar strings work perfectly with this instrument and give it a rich tone. There is no metal tone ring present on this banjo. 24" scale, one piece mahogany neck, 11-1/4" diameter wooden rim with large band of marquetry on the exterior. The banjo is currently playable, setup with a 1/2" bridge, with minimal forward relief; better playablity could possibly be achieved by re-setting or changing the dowel stick angle (evidence of past dowel stick reset present)
