From the second year of the partnership of banjo-makers William Cole and Albert Fairbanks, this unassuming flush-fret banjo was built in 1882 in Boston. Simple, 11" shiplap diameter wooden rim (sightly out of round), maker stamp present on dowel, with marquetry and rosewood veneer on rim's exterior; equipped with period style ebony tailpiece. One piece mahogany neck with 26-1/4" scale veneer fingerboard with flush frets and dot position markers, with flush frets, friction pegs installed via rosewood peghead overlay; repaired separation beneath fingerboard in upper positions, with some dings and chips to wooden elements throughout. A nice frailing banjo with mild forward relief, setup with a 1/2" bridge and skin head; nice lightweight warmth!
