The Epiphone Century model would go through some changes over the course of its production - designed with the intention to be a complete "starter pack" instrument. The Century product line included lap steels and amplifiers, as well as plectrum versions of guitars and banjos. This one comes to us in good condition overall, with some varying degree of past repair. Here, in iconic tobacco sunburst finish, we have a Century 422T, T for "Thin" - of the Gibson Era, dating accurately by their serial stamps to 1961. The serial stamp in the back of the headstock matches that on the internal Kalamazoo label. Laminate Maple construction, the guitar has a 16 3/8" lower bout, the thin body measuring a mere 1.75" in depth. The finish has expected checking, and some mild nicks mainly along its edge, but overall is fairly clean. It is outfitted with one Dog Ear P90 pickup, seen here with an unusual white cover - likely replaced. While the wiring appears original it has not been removed for authentication. An era appropriate Sprague cap present and functional, both pots, a bit heavy in feel work as they should. The neck is designed with a standard 25.5" scale length with a 1 21/32" nut width. The neck has a comfortable C profile feel with a slim taper. Constructed out of mahogany with a rosewood fingerboard, the neck is nice and straight with a functioning truss rod. The frets are clean but low in profile typical for this era - the fingerboard clean with some indentation. The saddle is basically bottomed out, but the action is a comfortable 5/64" in height at the twelfth fret of the sixth string and 4/64" on the first (setup currently with 11's). A hairline crack is present at the volute that doesn’t appear to have gone through the peg head, well repaired - not overtly noticable, but notable. Replaced tuners with nice slightly later era Grover deluxe tuners - the original 3x3 plate tuners long gone. Missing headstock emblem. Includes newer issue hardshell case.
