From builder Joel Eckhaus in Portland, Maine, this is a custom, high quality a style mandolin with unusual shape. The body has almost a mushroom, or garlic bulb, or Hershey kiss shape to it, made with wide grained spruce, and black locust back and sides; fully bound, with oval sound hole, and a cute tortoise pickguard. The walnut neck has an ebony fingerboard w/ 13-7/8" scale length and 1-1/4" wide nut; equipped with high quality open geared tuners. The neck has a hair of forward relief, but plays well with no issues, and very clean frets. The top shows sinkage under the bridge. Sonically, this is a very impressive and certainly interesting instrument. Includes hardshell case.
