A spectacle of engraved pearl and old-world craftmanship, we are enamored by this custom presentation grade banjo constructed in the style of an Fairbanks Electric No. 5 from esteemed banjo maker Douglas Unger. From high-grade curly maple, the three piece neck has a 26-1/4" scale length fully bound ebony fingerboard with profuse engraved pearl inlay adorning each fret beneath the scalloped nut featuring an extended column, a still-life of flower pots, double gryphons, ferns, and flowers, with even more inlay on the peghead overlay (double gryphons, flower pot, and flourishes), with a singular gryphon on the back of peghead, and standard inlay on the heel cap, with long back-strap/volute; 4x daisy high-relief carved on the heel, and fancy carved buttons on the 5x friction tuners present. The 10-3/4" diameter Electric rim assembly dates from 1898 and features original hand engravings on the exterior of the pot and grooved tension hoop, with binding present on either side of the interior rim-cap, with original hardware including Cobra hooks, closed nuts, No Knot tailpiece, Fairbanks plaque, neck adjuster hardware, and long ferrule; oval maker's plaque also on side of dowel stick.
