This banjo started life as a black Rickard electric rim with scalloped “Whyte Laydie “ style tonering and no bracket band. It has been mated to a wonderful custom neck by Professor Douglas Unger of Peninsula, Ohio. The custom neck is one piece mahogany in the style of the early banjos of William Cole and A. C. Fairbanks and features a spectacular heel carving.. The inlays are similar to Cole 4000 but the fingerboard is faux tortoiseshell and the elements combine the artistic designs of both of these builders. The banjo is equipped with non-geared pegs and is suitable for light steel playing. We could upgrade it with geared tuners for ann added cost. The scale is 26 inches…. it is a wonderful playing banjo by one of the all-time masters.
