Adam Cox has been building high grade banjos for over 30 years - preserving the integrity and namesake of his grandfather. This Mastertone style banjo is very well made, yielding the sound and playability of that of it's Gibson counterpart. An RB-3 style banjo, the 11" rim is constructed out of a stained thick three ply maple fitted with a Gibson style Flathead style 20 hole tone ring. Dual coordinating rods and a Presto style tailpiece stamped "Kentucky 5" & one piece flange. The resonator is made with a nice Birdseye maple interior and mahogany exterior with concentric rings. The neck is made of mahogany, with a bound ebony fingerboard featuring the famous wreath inlay pattern. The neck angle is right on, and the playability is easy in every register. This example was fitted with a sliding 5th string capo. Real deal ebony peg head overlay, with matching inlay, this banjo is outfitted with Planetary tuners with pearl buttons (ivoroid on the fifth). A functional truss rod is adjustable at the peg head. The frets and fingerboard are very clean. A very nice banjo, it comes to us in very good condition less superficial wear present in the nickel - seen most at the armrest. Includes hardshell case.
