Harry Eibert is well known to this area, having been a Syracuse based luthier for quite some time. Now residing in Montana, Harry continues to work on instruments, producing some under the HF Ebert branding. With nods to fine instruments of the past, we are happy to see and play this lovely flat top baring an old friends name. Constructed with a Spruce top and Ebony back & sides, this ornate guitar looks like a high grade Martin that never was. The lower bout measures 15.5" across, with a depth of 4.25" at the base - the upper bout measuring 11" across and 3 11/16" in depth towards the heel. The body joins the neck at the 12th fret, the fingerboard extension very close to the 3.75" soundhole. Decorated, it has ornate pearl binding, ply'd by what appears to be koa. A two tone, burst with a light amber center. A nicely figured rosewood bridge with pyramid ends, the saddle likely untouched. Book matched Ebony back and sides with a zipper marquetry center. Upper register cutaway makes one realize how cool of a design this really is coupled with its 12 fret neck joint. Sonically, this guitar has boom and punchy midrange "voice" that a lot of players prefer from 12 fret guitars. It has a lot of clarity and high end definition, something that many OM or finger style players will find nice - coupling that with the wide nut width, jazz and classical players will appreciate dense and complex note work. Finely built, and well cared for, this guitar is in really good shape - less some very light surface wear, and one light crack that does not go through the top, present parallel to the treble side of the fingerboard extension. One cleat inside at the center seam - it doesn't appear to have any separation externally. Double popsicle stick braces, the top is nice and flat. Scalloped X bracing and wide, thin maple bridge plate present. The neck is constructed with a 25" scale, and a wide 1 7/8" nut width. The neck constructed out of a deeply stained mahogany, with an interestingly figured, dappled rosewood - complete with pearl trim parallel with its first and sixth strings. The neck has a thicker, 30's baseball bat kind of feel - measuring 1" in depth at the first fret with essentially no taper until the heel. The open slot headstock looks elegant, and features a 45 inspired peg head overlay done in nice pearl. The guitar plays exceptionally well, with a nice neck angle, straight low action that measures 6/64" in height on the twelfth fret of the sixth string, and 5/64" on the first. The saddle shows about 6/64" above its slot. Includes Guardian hardshell case.
