STU FUCHS Workshops "UKEABILLY" and BEATLES CHORD MELODY

In this workshop, Kala Ukulele artist Stuart “Stukulele” Fuchs will teach rockabilly & rock n’ roll guitar styles adapted for the Ukulele. Rockabilly is an incredibly fun style of music to play, blending elements of country & honky tonk, blues, swing, and gospel influences. The artists & songwriters who pioneered this toe-tapping style truly revolutionized 20th century music, culture and also influenced the rock n’ roll “British Invasion” of the 1960’s. In this workshop you’ll learn how to play rhythm & accompaniment styles unique to this quintessential American roots music. In addition, Stuart’s vast experience in teaching improvisation will also open the gateway for you to take an improvised solo on your Ukulele - even if you have never done it before - you’ll find out just how easy & natural soloing can be!

The “Uke-a-billy” experience is offered as a single and multi-part workshop residency that includes:
• classic songs from artists such as Elvis, Johnny Brunette, Carl Perkins, Chuck Berry, The Beatles & many more!
 • accompaniment strums, groove & feel, boogie-woogie bass lines, chord based fills & solos, single note & double stop soloing (ala Chuck Berry), melodic soloing with scales 3rds, finger picking backup (travis picking for Uke), 12 bar blues form.

This workshop is open to ALL LEVELS of experience. Even if you’re a beginning Uke player, there is something you will take away from this “Uke-a-billy” workshop. Stuart orchestrates each workshop group into an experience of a multi-part Ukulele band that is as joyful as it is instructional.

Why is it that the music of the Beatles work so well on the Ukulele? Is it that John Lennon played one? Perhaps it’s because George Harrison often kept his car’s trunk full of Ukes so he’d be prepared for a spontaneous Uke jam with friends! Whatever the reason, It’s clear that the music of the “fab four” fit so very well onto the fab four strings! In this workshop Stuart “Stukulele” Fuchs will share his own easy arrangements of Beatles songs set to CHORD MELODY style. The beauty of Stuart’s arrangements is that they can be played by Ukulele beginners and at the same time offer challenges for intermediate as well as advanced Ukulele players. Participants in this workshop will join together in a Ukulele orchestra of classic Beatles tunes. Played individually, these solos are always a hit at open mics & jam sessions! Songs will include selections from the LPs “Rubber Soul”, “With the Beatles” and more. Stuart’s workshops always have a good dose of joy, humor and deep musical instruction from a very experienced and open-hearted teacher. Open to ALL LEVELS of experience.
