Thompson Odell was one of the many banjo teaching and selling outfits in Boston, Massachusetts in the 1890s. This "Artist" model features an 10 inch spun-over rim, has all original hardware including pointed shoes and round nuts, with later No Knot tailpiece; maker stamp, and serial number present on dowel along with original neck mounting hardware. The mahogany neck has a 24-1/4" scale length ebony fingerboard with simple pearl inlay (restoration work present on 12th and 16th frets, with small chip to ebony near nut), with later bone nut; setup with Peghed tuners, and later fifth; great for frailing, there is notable forward relief, dings, scratches, and scuffs on back of neck; equipped with skin head. 1-5/16" nut width
