Nice original large sized S. S. Stewart Thoroughbred model built around 1890 in the famous Philadelphia factory, featuring unusual saw cut inlay on the fretboard and peghead. The original spun-over rim assembly has original plaque and stamps, 11.5" diameter rim, with slightly worn grooved tension hoop, and Elite tailpiece setup with nylon; some extra holes present on inside wood shell at 2pm position, and through dowel (probably from a past resonator). The one piece cherry neck has a 27-1/4" scale length ebony fingerboard above three layers of laminations, nice floral heel carving, ebony heel with star and moon inlays, with thin original frets, with unusual decorate pearl inlay including a "floral face" beneath the nut, diamonds and circles, sideways tulips, and general flourishes; peghead is equipped with an ebony/bone nut, ebony overlay with profuse pearl inlay, original patent friction tuners. Neck has medium relief, but banjo plays decently with medium action.
