A superb S. S. Stewart "Presentation" Model from the collection of Akira Tsumura as featured on page 181 of his book, "1001 Banjos The Tsumura Collection", serial number #9299. Featuring profuse engraved pearl inlay on every fret of the 27-1/2" scale ebony fretboard/heel-cap/peghead overlay (multiple laminations beneath), the cherry neck also is also ornamented with a long high-relief heel carving encompassing nearly half the neck mostly in a floral motif, framed on top with a dove & daisy, and tulip on the back of the peghead; equipped with original carved bone friction pegs (brass ends with "ruby" caps), and thin original fret wire; 1-1/4" wide at nut. The spun-over 11.5" rim assembly has floral engravings on the exterior, delicate marquetry on the interior wall, a carved dowel stick w/ trade stamps & ivoroid Stewart plaque, gold-plated hooks/nuts/shoes/screws (four later nickel plated nuts), and an original Stewart Common Sense tailpiece w/ engraved rosette. Currently setup w/ Nylon strings, the instrument has a typical forward relief, but plays and intonates well with medium action/ a 1/2" bridge; cosmetic wear present (dings, tarnish to metal parts, with chip on peghead overlay, and light some light scratches on back of neck. Includes recent gig bag.
