Built in Hamilton, Ontario by luthier George Furlanetto, the Hammertone Octave 12 string Electric. An interesting and certainly utility instrument, these Hammertone's has become quite the popular little instrument amongst certain followings - played by the likes of Snarky Puppy to Devo. A double coursed instrument - while being similar in size to a mandolin, is simply an octave guitar - tuned an octave higher than a standard 12 string.
A retro inspired shape, it is similar to the Vox instruments of the 1960s. Equipped with a Gotoh bridge, the low fundamental strings are strung through the body - the octaves are loaded on the top. A simple single ply white pickguard with a Satin two tone burst finish, it has an instantly classic look that compliments its sound. Two Kent Armstrong Telecaster style pickups are accessible via its pickup selector switch, with a master volume and tone. Instant chime, it evokes studio tones from classic recordings immediately.
The neck is constructed with a maple profile and a rosewood fingerboard. 19 frets, the cutaway makes playing the extra high register a breeze - well coupled with the bolt on neck design allowing the player to fine tune adjustments easily - the truss rod accessible at the heel. A 16" scale length and a 1 7/8" nut width is a little to get used to, but the inspiration strikes fairly immediately. Easy low action measuring only 3-4/64" in height at the twelfht fret. Gotoh tuners, it stays in tune as it should. This example comes to us in great condition, with hardly any play wear to speak of less one small finish blem near the cutaway.
Includes original Levys gig bag.
