Here's a superbly flashy "Loar Era" Gibson that won't break the bank! Here we have a fine Gibson TB-5 tenor banjo dating to 1925, featuring the iconic, top-of-the-line "trapdoor" back design with the fine Cremona finish. Built during the height of the tenor banjo in the jazz age, these highly appointed instruments have a nice full and loud sound, with this example looking and playing exceptionally well. It is constructed with a 10.5" "Hollow Rim" design, with the iconic 20's trap door, tube & plate flange in a nice and matching gold finish - with a 19" scale length neck, fully bound with an ebony fingerboard with iconic Gibson inlay, plate style guitar tuners, and "Gibson" tailpiece. The peg head overlay is highly detailed and in great shape. This example comes to us in great condition, having recently had some repairs and a setup by our good friend Robbie Mortillaro. While it has some fret wear mostly around the first position, it does not impede the quality of those notes and does not require a re-fret. The inlays are present and overall in good shape with some typical blow out from age and expansion. The neck is nice and straight and plays well and warm in each register. The neck has a nice vintage chunky feel to it, and a soft v type of profile. Cosmetically its very clean with only subtle patina in the hardware, shrunken, but strong tuner buttons. Robbie did a nice job cleaning up the veneer on the trap door. Setup with low action and a fiberskyn head, this one is ready for its next career. A suitable candidate for any vintage Gibson enthusiast or player alike. Comes with the original hardshell case.
