A very nice playing & sounding electric L-5 dating to 1973.

A classic from the Gibson catalog, the L-5 features an arched spruce top, with carved maple back & sides. Acoustically very satisfying, but made electric in these Custom models. This guitar has a great electric voice for jazz, blues & swing. This one sports a players choice pair of Lindy Fralin P92 wide range humbuckers, and a new tailpiece, but otherwise is all original.

This particular example plays and sounds great even with its unoriginal parts. The slightly hotter pickups offer a nice electric tone that has a musical bloom to the notes, while still having a great punch for jazz and comping. The easy playability is inspiring and it sings in every register well.

Cosmetically this guitar is in great shape; slight surface scratches and some mild dings are present but not very noticeable. Very mild discoloration in the binding present, the binding has shrunk ever so slightly, but the finish is still strong and its only noticeable to the touch. The gold hardware has some expected patina and wear present, and some discoloration and rust on its screws likely from the celluloid pickguard, which is original. Original inlaid ebony bridge present with gold saddle. The tailpiece is a very well done reproduction with an ebony insert with mother of pearl inlaid with "L5'.

The 5 piece neck is nice and straight, with low action and clean binding. The action strung up with 12's currently measures about 5/64" in height at the twelfth fret. A solid neck angle, there is plenty of room available on the thumb screws for any future adjustment. This example is as they would call, a "fretless wonder" featuring the flat rail like frets Gibson had been known for using at the time. This speedy neck has a more narrow 1 11/16" nut width, and measures about .8" thick at the first position, and 1.05" at the eleventh before the curvature of the heel. Gibson Logo and flower pot is inlaid in the peg head. Original Kluson Sealfast tuners present.

Includes original Gibson branded hardshell case.
