Jim Frenzel built his first tube amp in 1952 - and was hooked ever since. The boutique shop has custom built amplifiers for longer than just about any other company that I can think of, offering a direct to consumer model which offered their high grade amplifiers for a very reasonable price point. Modeling their builds off of iconic amplifiers from the 50's and 60's, its no wonder that many players would be intrigued.
This custom built example is one that should create a fair bit of intrigue, as it is based off of circuitry from some of the most coveted amps in existence. This Frenzel FM 763 "Super Vibroverb" was inspired by the Fender aB763 Vibroverb, but it is much more than a clone. It has many added features developed over the 50+ years of building custom amps for touring professional musicians all over the world. A versatile amp that goes from Blackface 763 to Tweed/Marshall 5F6/JTM tones - this a fantastic amp for any professional guitarist, at an unbeatable pricepoint. Used, it comes to us in great condition functionally, with only mild cosmetic wear in the form of slight discoloration on the top of the tolex.
Key features include:
- Normal (type F) and Bright (type M) inputs with separate preamps & gain controls for unique smooth vintage Fender warm tones or the Marshall high mid tones. Utilizing an ABY switch can create further distinct tone.
- Classic 60's style insertion type Serial effects loop, with return jack (power amp in), send jack (preamp out) and send level control.
- Classic 6L6's in the output, but the bias is optimized using Frenzel's multi-valve design - which allows use to use octal based 6L6, 5881, KT66, KT88, ot 6550 tubes in the output stage without any need for adjustment.
- Hi Fi output transformer for extended low frequency response - with selectable 4, 8 or 16 ohm output.
- Preamp and drivers tubes are 12AX7, but one may use 12AT7 or AU7 for different tone and overdrive.
- Unique NNFB "Edge" switch on the presence control that transforms the power amp section into a "No-Negative-Feedback" style amp for more open, less compressed tone.
- Master Level control for further gain flexability
- Classic 60's JTM45 - Bassman 5F6 style 3-band tone stack for extended flexability.
- star ground system to reduce induced current chassis noise
- DC on filaments for low 60hz hum
- Input Jacks isolated form the chasis for lower noise, eddy currents and hum
- Classic knurled knobs, toggle switches and jewel pilot
