A fine example from the ill-fated and brief partnership of neighboring Boston banjo makers Albert Fairbanks and William Cole, this is an Imperial model (no style designation at this point), featuring a large rim size and extended fingerboard. The rim diameter measures 12" across, with a rolled tonering against the head; original hardware including "slight" neck adjustment hardware, pointed shoes, and bone tailpiece. The mahogany neck has a 25" scale length fingerboard w/ extension from the 19th-22nd fret...boat heel; large pearl inlay all down the neck; equipped with a gorgeous set of Ivory friction tuners. Light surface wear and surface impressions present on wooden parts; possible refret.
