An early Fred Bacon banjo, serial number 155, bearing the the model stamps, maker's name, and location (Hartford, Conn); a wonderful example, with a rich sweet tone and great playing neck. Simply ornamented, this banjo's rim is advertised as being "exactly the same as the No. 2, excepting the wood work is finished all in a beautiful, selected cherry, highly polished." The 11" diameter internal resonator rim assembly features binding on the outside edge, wave shaped coutouts, with all original hardware including No Knot. The 27" scale neck is noted as being both "handsome" and of "cherry", is fretted within the binding, and has a dyed pearwood fingerboard; binding has skrunk into frets, and portion of binder replaced on treble side. We sold this banjo in 2005 and noted that we had recently replaced the peghead overlay; peghead equipped with a nice set of Five Star Planetary tuners with later geared fifth; cosmetic wear, dings, and scuffs present.
