The famous Red Label! Many know the Nippon Gakki factory of Japan at this point, as they produced some very fine guitars during the guitar boom in the late 60's into the 70's. Here we have a fairly budget but well built model from that time - the small body Yamaha FG-110.
While being a plywood build, these do utilize thin plies allowing "more" resonance than a lot of other simple laminate builds. A laminate Spruce top and what appears to be laminate maple back and sides, yields a nice mid range heavy tone that records well to many fans, and certainly to ours ears is worth the price of admission. Very lightly braced, there is something special about these now vintage guitars.
The neck is designed with a 25" scale length and a wider 1.75" nut width. The necks profile has some heft to it, without as much shoulder, making it feel almost like a modern soft V, but maybe just a bit chunkier - regardless, its a comfortable neck for many and works well for fingerstyle players or strummers alike.
This example comes to us in very good condition, structurally strong, with only cosmetic wear. Light dings and nicks are present, as well as what appears to be maybe an old burn mark in the treble side upper bout. The neck is straight with a fairly good neck angle, the previous owner lowered the saddle, but the action is comfortable measuring a fairly typical 6/64" in height at the twelfth fret - the saddle showing about 4/64" above the slot, the bridge having its bridge pin slots elongated to yield a steeper angle to the saddle itself (which seems to have worked well). The bridge does show a small crack present between the pins but likely something that is not going further - the top showing no real belly or sinkage (again, the laminate construction is sort of like a tank).
Includes basic gig bag!
