Attributed to William Cole, this full sized banjo was made for teacher W.E. Stratton and his business partner J.A. Handley who were based in Lowell, MA. 11" spun-over rim with typical Cole interior hardware, neck brace, and neck adjuster at tailpiece end of dowel stick. 26" scale mahogany neck w/ thick ebony fingerboard w/ fancy engraved pearl inlays on peghead and position markers. Outfitted with friction tuners and "elite" tailpiece and Nylgut strings. Some finish checking present on backstrap of neck, and surface cracks on pearwood peghead overlay. Initials "MSL" inlayed in the heel cap.
