Players have regarded the Martin J-40M as "one of the best kept secrets" that the brand had ever produced. A unique 0000 Jumbo design originally produced in 1985, these guitars became quite favorable amongst players in the know of the finer details of what make the Martins sound so robust. A "Martin Jumbo" size, features a 16" lower bout (11 5/8" upper), with a depth measuring 5" at the end and 4" at the heel. A comfortable jumbo, a fairly uncommon statement! A solid Spruce top with light scalloped X bracing and a thin maple bridge plate - all great ingredients that certainly go well with the straight grained Indian rosewood back & sides. It has a robust tone with a bit more open bass response than a dreadnaught, and a really clear but well speaking treble - a favorable guitar for any style of playing. Cosmetically it is in good shape with some light wear in the finish around its edges, but nothing glaring, and no past repair work to speak of. An added active LR Baggs pickup with blendable piezo and microphone are a great choice for this versatile guitar. It is designed with a 25.4" scale length - the neck made of mahogany with a bound ebony fingerboard - hexagonal abalone inlay. A 1.75" nut width, the neck is nice and straight with even low action that measures about 5/64" in height at the twelfth fret, the saddle still tall above its slot. It has a replaced nut with a zero fret, a non-diminishing factor that could fairly easily be replaced if the next owner would prefer. Gold Martin stamped tuners round out this fine instrument!
