Handmade in North Carolina by Chris Shelton, Hook mandolins have garnered a fair bit of fan support and are currently played by the likes of Darrell Webb. Constructed with a nice resonant Spruce top and stunningly flamed maple back & sides - this is quite the nice and loud F style Mandolin. A thick chop completely rich in detail and complex overtones, it works well for soloing and chord work.
This F5 inspired mandolin plays as one would hope from the original owner. Nice 20's abalone inlay is inspiring and intricate, and compliments the deep brown finish, which further evokes a fine instrument from a century ago. Some picker is present in the top, but structurally is clean. Mild checking is present, but overall the instrument is quite clean. The neck angle and action is nice and playable, with fairly minimal fret wear present, with all notes singing well. Nice heavy duty Gold hardware, and adjustable ebony bridge (fairly bottomed out, but not needing to be lowered further). A previously installed Tone Gard installed on its body for resonance.
Includes original hardshell case.
