Gibson would produce the GA-20 in serveral different forms between 1950 and 1961. This earlier example of the GA-20 ticks all of the boxes for any vintage amp collector. Dressed in the early 50's cabinet with G logo ported grill, this example comes to us in good condition, recently serviced - and ready for its next studio or gig. Rich, warm tones at lower volume contrast well from the familiar Fender sound, and puts these old gems in a class of their own. When cranked it delivers a meaty and twangy light overdrive, with relatively low headroom thanks to the original Jensen P12R Alnico speaker (220120 speaker code). These small, old combos are perfect for low volume or recording situations, and have rightfully earned their place as many people's secret weapons in the studio. Cosmetically the amp is in fine shape, with normal wear and tear primarily in the corners of the tolex. The faceplace is in very good condition, with just some dust and a light petina on the input jacks (the first being replaced). Replaced handle. This example was recently serviced by local legend John Nau. Internally the amp has been well overhauled with new caps and resistors, as well as the addition of a new backplate and 3-prong power cord. Tubeset:
