From the second year of the partnership of banjo-makers William Cole and Albert Fairbanks, this unassuming flush-fret banjo was built in 1882 in Boston. Simple, 11" shiplap diameter wooden rim (sightly out of round), maker stamp present on dowel; equipped with rare Abel patent tailpiece. One piece mahogany neck with 26" scale veneer fingerboard with flush frets and dot position markers, 1-5/16" wide nut; well repaired "ear crack" near fourth string (visible on back of peghead). Plays with low/medium action with mild forward relief
