Excellent example from German luthier Edgar Monch (1907-1977), built in 1971 during the last year of his time in Toronto occupying himself with building and teaching including the likes of Jean Larrivee. This example was from the collection of noted guitarist and founder of the classical guitar department at SUNY Buffalo Oswald Rantucci (1907-1988), presumably ordered new; extremely warm tone, with lovely presence. The body is of straight grained Indian rosewood, with a straight grained yellowed spruce top, decorative rosette, with rosewood bridge; Spanish foot construction, with fan braced top, solid kerfing, with signed and dated square label present; some dings, scratches, and finish cloudiness present. The cedar neck has a 650mm scale ebony fingerboard, with 52mm wide nut, with rosewood peghead overlay; neck is very straight with light forward relief, some minor fret wear, and scratches on the back and on peghead. Setup with high tension strings with medium/low action; some room on saddle left. Included in sale is original triangular hard case by Kurman for Jose Oribe.
