An absolute tour-de-force from renowned maker Douglas Unger, without question one of the finest examples of his work ever created. Presentation grade in every respect, the custom 26" scale neck boasts delicate engraved pearl inlay from end-to-end, recreating the fanciest artistry of the A. C. Fairbanks Company from the beginning of the last century; bound/flared peghead with mirrored gryphons perching atop a gigantic flowerpot, reverse "birthday candles", multiple other ornate flower pots, a fruit basket, columns, mirrored serpents, ferns, flowers...just some of the design elements employed; large flared heel shape with intricate carving, with engraved pearl inlay on the heel cap ("WBA"), and large "standard" gryphon present on back of peghead's long backstrap w/ multiple laminations beneath; scalloped nut with 1-5/16" width, equipped with early Champion geared friction tuners; engraved pearl maker's plaque present above long ferrule. The thin rim assembly measures 10-1/2" diameter rim assembly was finished in black similar to Cole banjos, with scalloped Electric tonering (Rickard), with grained binding on interior/exterior edges, with thick bands on marquetry on the rim's cap.
