Sturdily built model from the British firm, Clifford Essex's Professional model, clearly designed as a workhorse instrument built to withstand the hustle and bustle of a gigging banjoist's hectic performance schedule. The extra deep spun-over rim assembly has a 12-3/16" diameter, with walnut interior, original hardware including square nuts/lyre tailpiece (one replaced mounting screw), with scalloped tension hoop (for comfort); maker and model plaque present on dowel stick, with pointed neck hardware. The 26.5" scale length three piece maple neck has a rosewood center piece, screw construction through heel covered by pearl circle, with thick ebony fingerboard/pearl position markers, ebony nut with 1-1/4" width, metal shield inlaid into ebony peghead overlay; neck is very straight with plugged "knot" hole on back, and was equipped with Gotoh geared tuners/fifth. Setup with Labella nylon strings, this is a lovely banjo for classic or folk styles.
