Founded in 1976 by David Schecter, Schecter Guitar Research really became well known in the 80's making replacement parts for Fenders - and were famously used by players like Pete Townshend & Mark Knopfler. 

This electric appears to be from their Mercury line - but is something a bit trickier to date given these were generally non-standard made by parts, even from Schecter, making each example relatively unique.

This is a well loved 80's issue Schecter that shows wear in its black lacquer body, which appears to be finished in poly - outfitted with black hardware and a heavy duty brass bridge - appearing to have been originally black worn down. Player owned, it has nicks, dings and surface scratches - but it plays fabulously. Schecter pickups, it has had solder joints touched up, and the coils re-wrapped in copper tape in the neck and middle positions. Great Strat tones, it has a broadband sound with plenty of punch.

The neck on this guitar is really great with a slim C profile and a thin fairly worn satin finish. It has an ebony fingerboard which is in great shape, the frets showing even wear - likely having had a relatively recent level crown & polish. A speedy neck, it is nice and straight, yielding low action, measuring an even 4/64" in height at the twelfth fret. Matching black headstock & tuners - this is a nice different option for anyone looking for a cool, 80's era shredder that can easily compete with any modern Stratocaster.
