A rare National Triolian that exhibits intriguing 1930's attributes.
The previous owner had some work done by the well legendary late Marc Schoenberger - including a neck reset, as well as cone/plate work.
This Triolian is constructed out of a metal body with what appears to be their "piano" finish - with painted on wood grain with a dark burst. Chrome plated tailpiece is in good condition with some flaking around its edge. Presumably original, yet unfamiliar acrylic pickguard present and in good condition. The body's finish is in good shape retaining a gloss that may have been oversprayed with clear at some point.
To late '34 spec, this has a 14 fret neck - which on this example appears to be a finished over Maple. It has a V profile, the rosewood fingerboard fully bound with typical MOP dot inlay. Slot headstock. The neck profile has a soft V feel with some heft. The neck is designed with a standard 1.75" nut width and 24.9" scale length. The neck angle is right on yielding easy action for slide and Spanish playing (setup currently in open D) - the action measuring 6/64" in height at the twelfth fret of the sixth string, and 5/64" on the first - the frets showing no signs of wear implying it likely had been professionally refretted.
