Simple banjo from the short partnership of Albert Fairbanks and William Cole. This Imperial model can be dated to circa 1888, and features an 11.5" diameter black painted/shallow rim assembly, with nickel plated hardware, including very slight metal edge forming a tonering; equipped with original metal parts including simple neck adjustment system, 1886 patent tailpiece; matching model and serial number stamps present. The one piece mahogany neck has a 27.5" scale length ebony fingerboard with saw cut pearl inlay with 1-5/16" wide bone nut, ebony peghead overlay, boat heel, equipped with beaded/engraved ivoroid friction tuners. The neck has some forward relief, scratching and dings present throughout, with tarnish and cosmetic wear on rim.
