Designed as one of the earliest Fender combos, and arguably the most historically significant. Released in late 1946 under the name Dual Professional, these amps featured firsts for the Fender product line, including the jewel light, eyelet circuit board, covered finger-jointed cabinet, on/off switch and two speakers. Within about two years, the name was changed to Super and the covering was changed to tweed. The innovations on this amp set the basic template for all of the amps Fender made throughout the 1950s and beyond. The 5E4 would become a coveted and pretty rare amp that would go through typical design changes, resulting in different variations all with subtlty - again making the 5E4 one of the favorites amongst players and collectors alike.

This example is simply fantastic, being a rare low watt version by way of its 6V6 tubes. It is in very good condition, having had thorough work done to maintain its playability & aesthetic. This amp has some new electrolytics and has been recapped (where needed), a diode replacement for its Selenium rectifier, new tubes, and a retweed done while in the possession of its previous owner. This amp is studio ready, and has an unmistakable vintage tweed tone we all know and love from Fenders finest era.

Cosmetically it's in great shape, again, visually very appealing from its past retweed. The tweed has aged nicely, having some very light wear & some bar accurate rings from past beverages on the top. The original grille is in good shape less some light tearing towards the right hand side. The narrow panel is in good shape, and hardly any wear is present in its silk screen. The original tube chart accurately dating to February 1957. The chart is in great shape with some interesting pen marks which cross off the 5U4 tube in place for a written in 5Y3. The pens ink matches the color from the serial number implying it was done at its inception (which also likely matches the masking tape on its interior, more on that below). This is something seen on other examples from around this era as well, sometimes for 6L6s, as the amp would change from a 6L6 design, to 6V6, eventually back to 6L6. It is equipped with a matched pair of JJ 6V6's from TubeDepot with an old stock Sylvania 5U4. Old stock preamp tubes are present and work as they should. Original Stackpole pot codes date to early '56.

As mentioned before, this has had some caps replaced with very nice Nichicons, but some Astrons are still present. Original triad transformers are present. The original masking tape with the name of its technician is present towards the preamp section, but sadly the name is hard to make out. The slightly earlier, original pair of Jensen Alnicos are present, dating to the 45th week of '55. The previous owner had them professionally re-coned - preserving their nice warm low watt compression. A new IEC is installed, and its handle has been replaced.

Comes with a newer cover
