This is an extremely rare mahogany necked A. C. Fairbanks Tubaphone No. 9 from the first years of its introduction. This banjo is featured on page 133 of the book 1001 Banjos: the Tsumura collection and is a historically important instrument. It features the 40 hole tone ring and the vine inlay in the peghead. These appointments were only done in the very first year of production. The rim size is 10–15/16 inches and the scale length is 27 inches. All of the pearl is finely engraved and absolutely beautiful condition. The pearwoood lamination below the peg head, and the fingerboard were replaced as they had deteriorated and made the banjo quite unplayable. As it is now, it is a great player, and we have set it up with classical strings. The banjo sports the original gold friction tuners with large mother of pearl buttons and an five string engraved Kerschner, unique tailpiece with swivel ends.
