Rare early banjo instrument from Bacon Banjo Company, this is an original five Bacon Blue Ribbon Style A, a revered open back banjo, famously lightweight and powerful in tone. The 11.5" rim assembly has a thin maple rim with pearwood rim cap, and original tailpiece; some hairline cracks present beneath a few hooks. The tonering is considered to be the "half-spun" variety, with exposed black painted wooden interior and metal on the outside; perforations present with exterior washers in the outside metal holes; missing pop-off maple resonator. The 27" scale maple neck has more standard Bacon inlay and make/model in fancy motif on pearwood peghead overlay. Bound fingerboard, w/ 1-1/4" width. Equipped with friction tuners with ivoroid buttons. Some wear on back of neck and light wear on frets.
