Wm. Tilton Brass Rim

  • Very Good Condition
  • Year: circa 1890s

Another unusual instrument attributed to Wm. Tilton, who sought to improve the functionality and tone of stringed instrument in the late 19th century. This banjo features a rear tensioning rim 10.5" brass rim with floral shaped shoes (taken from period drawer pulls) that secure the interior two-piece wooden "tonering"; flat wooden piece retains paper label inside, and a traditional rounded dowel stick is present (repaired dowel crack at endpin); equipped with a fancy later brass tailpiece. The neck has a 22" scale length, and was made from mahogany; piece of vintage brass was added atop fingerboard in lower positons; repaired peghead crack, equipped with newer boxwood pegs.
