A very significant early banjo by Geoff Stelling, this Bellflower #21-5182, was built by Stelling for Hub Nitchie (founder of the Banjo Newsletter), and is noted on the maker's website. Featuring striking blonde stained maple, the multi-ply rim assembly and a non-perforated flat head tonering, one piece flange w/ bow-tie cutouts, and is equipped with a Kershner style tailpiece; triangular shaped labels present inside rim and resonator (rim label signed by maker, 6/13/75); maple resonator is fully bound, with exotic wood marquetry in floral pattern on back; lots of finish checking present throughout, with tarnish on metal parts present. The 26-1/4" scale five piece maple neck has an ebony fingerboard with fine pearl inlay, with angular peghead shape; mild fretwear present, 1-3/8" wide nut, equipped with five star planetary tuners; several holes from past 5th string capo situation present on side of neck; lots of finish checking present on the neck, with a small cosmetic repair on the heel cap.
