ThIs Banjo- Mandolin is marked "Princess" in pearl in the peghead. Perhaps it was made by Gretsch or one of the other large manufacturers. At any rate, the neck and the fingerboard show considerable "fall off" at the extension, it needs a new head so we have decided to sell this in the condition in which it was found. It could be restored to a playing banjo mandolin with some skilled attention. But to us, the real value is in the nicely constructed maple rim which measures 11-1/4 inches in diameter, 2-5/8 inches depth and 5/8 inches thick. It has an interesting aluminum tonering, mounted the inner edge of the rim creating an arched top. There is a delicate marquetry on the outside of the rim and the hardware looks vaguely familiar. The hooks and nuts and shoes are certainly Bacon and Day/Gretsch factory. This instrument would make a great conversion to five string. Additionally, it comes with a very nice hard case that certainly has value unto it own.
