Oahu Valco 5 Watt Tube Combo Amp

  • Very Good Condition
  • Year: circa 1950s
  • Serial #: X80157

Originally produced from the 40's through the 60's, Valco produced amps for a number of different companies, notably Supro, National even Gretsch. This Oahu branded 5 watt combo has certainly had a life, presumably being from the late 40's to mid 50's - but it's ready for more. Similar to a Fender Champ, tone enthusiasts will appreciate the early breakup, and the creative limitations of yesteryear, equipped with only a basic Volume and Tone control. This amp has been through the ringer and shows extensive wear on it's metal surfaces, but the outside yellow lacquered tolex is in pretty okay shape. All the parts internally appear original, but the tubes have been changed in it's life. The second input jack was repurposed as a secondary output jack running in parallel, piggy-backed off the internal output for a secondary speaker. This jack was carefully mounted to a Crisco container lid that is stapled to the back plate (I can't make this stuff up). It is missing a knob, but still has one of what appears to be the original knobs. The dome white pilot light functions as it should. Missing the handle. This would make for a great amp in the studio or the collector or fine, and interesting equipment. Original Rola/Jensen Speaker (#285645)
