Muse Custom Style 1 "Mike W. Ford"

  • Excellent Condition
  • Year: 1968
  • Includes Original Hard Shell Case
  • Serial #: 1543

Very unusual Muse banjo, featuring profuse custom inlay work all over the fingerboard, engraved metal parts, relief carved peghead, bearing the name of Mike W. Ford, the author of "How to Play the Blue Grass Banjo", published by Hargail Music Press in 1972. Although highly adorned, it is our best guess that this is not factory work, as it is inconsistent with the type of custom options offered by Ode/Muse at this time, or with the styles/motifs of the company. The standard Style 1 one-piece archtop aluminium rim assembly features engraving on the exterior of the rim, tension hoop armrest, and is matched with a standard bound walnut resonator. The three piece walnut neck has thick pearl and abalone inlay on every single fret, with butterfly on 6th fret, and namesake engraved to last fret; equipped with sliding fifth string capo, and Muse D tuning pegs on head. Only some light dings and cosmetic wear/tear present throughout, with a nice playing neck. Original case missing handle
