Selling for $22.50 in 1937, the Style A model was a popular budget instrument at the time, with Martin producing 150 in that year; this example has a lovely Shaded Top (sunburst), which was a regular custom spect available by '37; this example is clean and unmodified wth a lovely appearance. The flat-back, tear-drop shaped mandolin features mahogany back and sides with a bent spruce top; small tortoise pickguard, and ebony bridge and original tailpiece w/ cover; surface checking, play wear, finish scratches, some dings present, but no structural issues noted. The mahogany neck has a 13" scale ebony fretboard w/ later frets w/ some wear; good intonation and action; 1-3/16" wide at nut; original tuners. Includes original chipboard case.
