Rarely seen used banjo from master builder, James Hartel, who is known for his fine historically accurate reproductions of significant 19th century banjos. We are excited to offer this faithful recreation of a banjo built by James Ashborn of Wolcottville, CT who was the first person to hold a banjo patent. This instrument was painstakingly modeled after an extant example. The 12-3/4 inch diameter rim is single ply bent, with accurately recreated with a wooden "flange" to support the handmade hardware. The curly maple neck was built with a long scale and very thin, original style, rosewood, fingerboard, and peg head overlay; original style rosewood tuners and tailpiece. Soft feeling original style finish. Set up with original style. Gut strings for the authentic sound. This banjo is In great condition with no noticeable wear. Signed and dated by the maker underneath the head.
