This is an original early banjo that represents one of the earliest patent for a resonator and top tension rim design. All solid mahogany neck with huge heel; highly figured Brazilian rosewood fingerboard. The heel is stamped with the Martin Brothers Dobson Patent on both sides. The resonator is Brazilian rosewood with attractive marquetry strips on the upper and lower edges. Old style bone tailpiece is most likely a recent addition. This banjo is complete and original. It plays well to the 7th with Nylgut strings and it sounds like a trip back in the time machine.
